Flooding Advice & Information
Watercourse Maintenance
The Roads and Transportation Team carries out the Council's obligation to ensure that sensitive watercourses are inspected and maintained to minimise the incidence of flooding of land. This involves operating cyclical inspections and maintenance of sensitive watercourses and the clearance of any debris collected at structures across watercourses.
We also monitor weather forecast information from the Met Office and flood warnings from Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to help us prepare, where possible, sensitive watercourses in advance of extreme rainfall events.
Through our maintenance regime and professional analysis of our sensitive watercourses we aim to develop improvement programmes to reduce flood risk to property along the rivers, burns and other sensitive watercourses in Clackmannanshire.

New Flooding Warning System
A new flood warning system has been developed by the Council and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for the River Devon. The system is now operated by SEPA, through their current 'Floodline' service. It gives 3 hour advance alerts and warnings of likely flooding at six specific locations along the river which have been prone to flooding.
- Rackmill, Dollar
- Sterling Mills, Tillicoultry
- Elistoun Drive Area, Tillicoultry
- Glenfoot Bridge at Marchglen
- River Devon at Alva
- Menstrie Industrial Site
- River Devon at Cambus Weir
'Floodline' is a public information Service currently operated by SEPA providing flood alerts and warnings, together with advice on what to do before, during and after a flood. The service is provided through a dedicated 24 hour telephone line (0845 988 1188) and through the SEPA website.
SEPA have introduced a national flood warning service called 'Floodline Warnings Direct'. This service will send messages, free of charge, about flooding directly to people and businesses who register for the service. You can sign up through SEPA's website.
