Services for people over the age of 65 with a physical or sensory impairment
The Whins offers two services for people over the age of 65 with a physical disability or sensory impairment. These services are only available to residents within the Clackmannanshire area.
People's individual needs are considered before offering the most appropriate service.
Both groups allow service users the opportunity to meet other people, offer respite for carers/families, and for people to take part in meaningful activities.
The Retirement Group
- This group accesses a wide variety of opportunities/activities in the wider community. The group access these opportunities in the Forth Valley area.
- Staff put together a plan of activities for a period of time (usually 5 weeks), and service users' suggestions are welcomed during this process.
- If for any reason the service is unable to access the community, a service is offered within the Whins Resouce Centre.
People who access this service must require only minimal support from staff for personal care. Also as the group accesses the community, equipment such as hoists etc are not available.
The group can take up to 8 people maximum each day, although the number may be less due to service users' needs to ensure everyone receives the level of support required.
The Extended Service
- This group is based within the Whins Resource Centre, and is therefore able to access the full range of facilities within the centre. Individuals can also access the gym if they have been assessed by a physiotherapist.
This group is for individuals who would find it difficult to cope with the demands of a service that accesses the community on a full time basis. People may have more complex needs which mean they require the use of equipment, eg:
- Hoists
- PEG feeding etc
The group will also access the community on occasion, however they may only go out for half day outings to reduce the physical demands on individuals. The group can take up to 6 people maximum on a daily basis.
