Bye Laws
Bye Laws are laws which are put in place by Clackmannanshire Council.
Clackmannanshire Council Byelaws on the Employment of Children 2001
This Byelaw is for the protection of children when they are employed. Many children have part time jobs such as paper rounds or weekends in a local shop. Even if a child works without payment in any undertaking carried on for profit, then the child will be deemed to be employed in that business. So helping out with the family business is covered by the legal restrictions.
No child may be employed if the child is under the age of 14 unless expressly specified in byelaws and then only on an occasional basis.
For children under 16 the Byelaws give restrictions on
- Type of employment and duties and
- the Hours of work
Anyone who employs children under 16 must have a permit. Applications are available from and can be returned to Attendance and Welfare Officers, Room 28, Lime Tree House, Alloa, FK10 1EX, or email awosupport@clacks.gov.uk.
