Structure Plan Chapter 3 - Caring for the Environment

3.1 - Chapter 3 Introduction

3.1.1

Clackmannanshire and Stirling have a rich natural and cultural heritage which is a key strategic asset. The wealth of natural heritage is shown in the wide range of landscapes, geology, plants and animals to be seen in such a relatively small area. The cultural heritage is shown in its archaeological remains, historic buildings and attractive towns and villages. The combination and interrelationship of landscape and the activities of mankind, of habitat and wildlife all combine to make this an attractive area in which to live and work.

3.1.2

Environmental quality is increasingly a consideration in economic development decisions and it can play a positive role in attracting new investment and businesses to the area. It is also vital to the tourism industry and the economic life of our rural areas. New development must be carefully located to safeguard these qualities and where possible, enhance them.

3.1.3

The Structure Plan strategy is designed so that new development can take place in a way that protects and enhances the environment. We must plan positively for people's social and economic needs, and to allow access to the countryside for recreation and tourism, but always in a way that cares for the environment and provides enhancement where possible.

3.1.4

This Chapter provides policies that are aimed at protecting and enhancing the environment while enabling appropriate development in suitable locations.
