2.3 - The Key Themes

A four fold vision, which translates Sustainable Development into a land use strategy that can apply to the Structure Plan, has been formulated. The four parts of this vision are:
- Caring For The Environment;
- Promoting Appropriate Development;
- Improving the Quality of Life; and
- Promoting Access to Opportunity

The diagram below (Fig 2.1) indicates how these themes relate to each other. In Working Towards Sustainable Development the Plan seeks to achieve an appropriate balance between promoting development, improving quality of life and accessibility all within the limits set by the need to care for the environment.
