Clackmannanshire Secondary Schools Support Service is a resource, which uses flexible and responsive methods of supporting youngsters who have difficulty coping in mainstream education because of social, emotional and behavioural needs.

The Service provides a holistic approach to individual need and delivers a quality service to pupils, their parents and their schools.

Photogtaph - Secondary Schools' Support ServiceThe multi-disciplinary staff team strive to create a welcoming positive atmosphere where all feel equally valued and value others. An open, caring, stimulating climate is fostered, where staff and pupils are empowered to move forward in an atmosphere of mutual support, sharing and collaboration.

The main aim of the Service is to be pro-active in supporting Clackmannanshire's three secondary schools to maintain pupil placements and to offer alternative educational provision for those pupils whose needs cannot be met within the existing support structures in mainstream.

The support strategies of this external service complement and enhance that which the schools already provide and are offered when in-school methods have been unsuccessful in meeting the needs of the individual. A continuum of support methods and strategies, using the minimum intervention theory, has been developed to assist schools in meeting the individual needs of their pupils.

A limted number of placements are offered offsite. Pupils are identified through the Staged Intervention process and are allocated places through a multi agency admission panel. The purpose of which is to re-engage the child with education.

The multi-disciplinary team consist of the Acting Headteacher, the Depute Headteacher (responsible for the day to day management of the Primary School Support Service, Pupil Support Manager, Principal Teacher, 8 teachers (fte), 4 project workers, 2 supervisory assistants, 2 administrators (1 full time and 1 part time).

The Secondary and Primary Support Services joined together in 2004 becoming one service that provides support for all schools in Clackmannanshire.
