Lochies School is a school for primary aged children with severe/complex Additional Support Needs.
There are at present 20 children in the school which shares a site with a mainstream primary on the edge of the village of Sauchie next to Alloa. It serves the whole of Clackmannanshire with all the children being bussed or taxied into school.
- Morning session: 9.30 am - 12.30 pm
- Afternoon session: 1.30 - 3.00 pm
Facilities
The school has 4 classrooms, a GP room, a Soft Play room, Multi-Sensory Room and Sensory Experiential Room.
There is a Headteacher’s room and office next to the front door and the Deputy Headteacher has an office at the top of the corridor where the classrooms are.
Play area
There is a purpose built play area within the school grounds and a smaller enclosed play area is shared by both on site schools.
Staff
There are presently 3 class teachers, a depute headteacher, a headteacher, 11 supervisory assistants, a Home School Link Worker and a full-time administrator in the school.
There are 2 Speech & Language therapists, an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist working part time in the school, supporting pupils, staff and families with programmes of work linking in to the Individualised Educational Programmes which every child has.
The school works very closely with Psychological Services, Social Services and the NHS trust to support children and their families.
Curriculum
IEP’s are delivered through the Synthetic Phonics Programme, IPM (maths) and the elaborated curriculum with sensory approaches used for those children who require it.
School meals
School meals are cooked in the near-by meals distribution centre for Clackmannanshire and all pupils are provided with a free school lunch. Special diets are also catered for.
The school is part of the Healthy Eating Initiative and operates a Healthy Tuck Shop which is organised and run by senior pupils, Lochies received Health Promotion Level 2 accreditation in March 2008.
Parental involvement
Parents and carers are encouraged to be involved in the education of their child. They are invited to review meetings when they are given the opportunity to discuss their child’s individual educationalised programmes with class teachers and any therapists involved with the child.
They are also welcome at any time to discuss any concerns or issues.
It is the policy of Lochies School to encourage and support inclusion of pupils whenever possible.
Social inclusion
There are numerous opportunities for social inclusion with Deerpark Primary and Primary Schools around the Authority.
The school has established links with the local community, making good use of local amenities as well as in the nearby town of Alloa.
