Rugby Development

Most children’s first experience of rugby in Clackmannanshire is in the Primary School where TAG Rugby is now taught to P7 children as part of the PE/PA curriculum. This is a non-contact form of the sport, which encourages both boys and girls to develop their rugby skills within a safe and fun environment.
Junior Rugby
Both Alloa and Hillfoots Rugby Clubs run very successful Mini (P4-P7) and Midi (S1-S6) sections:
Alloa RFC Training
- Sunday mornings at 10.00 am
Hillfoots RFC Training
- Saturday mornings at 9.30 am
The Clubs compete in the Midlands U15, U16 and U18 Leagues.
Clacks Colts
For more information on this club, which originates from Alloa and Hillfoots RFCs and caters for under 18s, you can visit our page entitled Clacks Colts.
Central Schools League
Secondary school rugby is played across the central belt under the banner of the Central Schools League. Clackmannanshire is represented in the league by Alva Academy, Alloa Academy and Lornshill Academy. The local secondary schools also compete in the Central schools cup and seven-aside competitions.
Progression
Players can progress from secondary school/club level to Pathway Squad level where the Rugby Development Officer assists in the organisation and coaching of the Central Crusaders U/15 and U/16 elite squads.
These two squads are selected from Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Council Areas. They play against four other teams from Caledonia, namely - Fife, Tayside, North East and Highlands & Islands.
Players can then progress onto represent Caledonia at U/16 and Midland Scorpions U18.
Coaching Courses
The Rugby Development Officer in conjunction with the Scottish Rugby Union runs a number of coaching courses over the year ranging from Foundation to Adult courses.
