Having difficulty paying your Rent or Council Tax?

A Money Adviser can help if the questions below apply to you.

  • Do you have rent arrears?
  • Do you have Council Tax arrears?
  • Do you run short of money before the end of the week?
  • Do you find that you are robbing Peter to pay Paul?
  • Do you have fuel bills, credit cards or loans which you cannot pay?
  • Are you unsure that you are getting all of the benefits you could get?
  • Have you been refused a benefit that you think you should get?

An adviser will:

  • provide a free service;
  • listen and offer support;
  • treat everything you say in complete confidence;
  • always ask your consent before taking any action;
  • give you copies of all letters written on your behalf;
  • keep you fully informed about your case;
  • give you free access to our records on your case;
  • visit you in your home if necessary.

When you can be seen

If you write, phone or email, an appointment will be made for you to be seen within 21 days. In urgent cases we will do all we can to see you as soon as possible. The service is free and confidential. Home visits can also be arranged.

Our advisers can help by:

  • checking your income, benefit entitlement and tax assessment;
  • representing you in disputes with the Department of Work and Pensions;
  • negotiating with the Housing and other Council services on your behalf;
  • getting in touch with fuel companies about your bills to arrange easier payments;
  • trying to negotiate smaller repayments to credit companies for you;
  • advising on legal action for debts.
