Electrical Testing and Rewiring

Electrical Testing Programme 2011/12

Clackmannanshire Council is required by law to carry out electrical testing on all of its properties over a 10 year cycle to ensure electrical installations are in safe working order and meet legislative requirements.

Tenants required to give access for testing have been advised of this upcoming programme.

A total of 500 houses will be checked before April 2012.

The contractor will test the existing wiring, sockets, switches and fuse boards in accordance with the Periodic Inspection & Testing of Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Wiring Regulations. This will be done with the minimum disruption to our tenants. The electrical contractor will produce identification prior to seeking access to houses.

This programme is part of Clackmannanshire Council's ongoing commitment to bringing all of its housing stock up to meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard.

The work entails the replacement of the entire house electrical wiring system.

This will include replacement of the fuse box with a new fuse-board containing fuses that can be easily reset, miniature circuit breakers, sensitive fault detection switch which can prevent injury from electric shock and make the electrical system safer.

The number of wall sockets will be increased to cope with modern needs and hard wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed providing a safer, reliable warning system that is not reliant on batteries.
