Clackmannanshire derives its name from a village hugging the slopes of a small hill overlooking the River Forth. On top of this hill is Clackmannan Tower, formerly the site of a hunting lodge belonging to Robert Bruce.

Unlike the "Wee County", few places can boast a motto that has its roots in Scottish legend. "Look aboot ye", retorted Robert Bruce after a lazy servant failed to locate his gauntlet, lost whilst hunting in the area. This brief command then became the motto of Clackmannanshire. Today, it is one the local Ranger Service will advise residents and visitors to follow!
