Johnstone & Cochrane Parks
This is situated within the hillfoots town of Alva on the A91 Stirling to St. Andrew’s Road.
Lying to the east is Johnstone Park, donated by James Johnstone in 1856. In 1922 the area adjoining this was donated by the Cochrane family and named Cochrane Park.
The park provides entertainment for all, a toddlers play area with sand pit in a safe environment. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Ochil Hills, the park has many family sized picnic tables, football pitches and pleasant open space. This year the paddling pool and boating pond area is being re-developed as a creative play area. The design is focussing on enabling imaginative children's play through the use of water and sand as well as traditional play. Consultation has taken place and work is programmed to start after this years Alva games have taken place. The play park is due for completion by March 2009.
The Alva Games have long been held in the park. These games include all the traditional events of a highland gathering and for the very fit, a challenging and exciting hill race to the top of the Ochils. The 150th anniversary of this event was recently held in the park.
The park is proving to be an increasingly popular destination for nursery and school day trips. The excellent facilities include staffed toilets and ample car and coach parking.
