Gartmorn Dam Fishery

Fisherman holding trout with Trout Fisherman and Trout Masters 2008 Competition logosLocated within Gartmorn Dam Country Park, you can experience first class angling for brown and rainbow trout, at this well stocked 167 acre water.

Bank angling is permitted around the shoreline, this compliments the nine boats which can accommodate from one to three people, giving access to most areas of the water.

Now a recognised "Troutmaster" water, we are participating in the 2008 Troutmaster Competition. 2008 also sees the start of our second season of our "Back to Brown Trout" programme.

Fishery Report

8th September 2008

It is a well known fact that anglers are never happy with the weather, conditions over this past week may go some way to explaining why.

Winds giving rise to white crested waves one day being followed by mirror flat calms the next have really put all fishing to the test.

However some good fishing was still to be had as regular angler Jack Bracken proved with the capture of a Rainbow weighing 4 lb. Jack is an advocate of small Buzzers and Nymphs and indeed fished a small Hares Ear Nymph in a good wave to take this fish which he carefully returned.

Traditional top of the water tactics have been enjoyed by many. Using the wave to their advantage anglers have been witnessing the thrill of surface takes as the trout come to the bob.

Young angler John Boath made his first trip to 'The Dam' one to remember with a Rainbow of 2 lb 8 oz and Brown of 1 lb 8 oz for a bag weighing 4 lb.

Other catches of note :--

F.Thomson 1 for 2 lb 2 oz
S.Whyte 4 for 6 lb 2 oz
J.Chernouski 3 for 3 lb 10 oz
J.Boath 2 for 4 lb 0 oz
D.Neilson 2 for 5 lb 0 oz
R Lillie 2 for 3 lb 0oz
