Daily Bread - Lys Hansen

Moment of Truth
Moment of Truth

Lys Hansen, Alloa’s international artist, who created the exhibition “Daily Bread”, based on her childhood memories of war time Alloa, may soon be showing her vision of the area around the country. Commissioned by Alloa South & East Social Inclusion Partnership and Clackmannanshire Council, the exhibition opened to national acclaim in June 2001 in Alloa Tower. The series of works, including the diptych “For the People of Alloa” , Mill Girls and paintings illustrating United Glass is now available for national tour and Kirkcudbright’s Tolbooth Gallery is interested in taking the show.

In March 2003 Dumfries and Galloway Council requested that the exhibition be hosted at The Tolbooth, part of that Council’s Museum and Cultural Services . The works were received with positive reviews, see link to The Tolbooth for further information.

This was the first time that an Alloa show had gone on tour nationally and provided an opportunity for Alloa to be better known, for the work of the SIP to be enhanced and helped project Clackmannanshire as an area where artistic talent thrives. It was a big step for arts development in the Wee County.
