Garden Competition Enters Judging Stage
Friday 23rd July 2010
Keen gardeners only have a few more days to put the finishing touches to their entries in this years annual Garden Competition.
The deadline for green fingered locals is Thursday 29th July when the Council's 35th Garden Competition enters the final round of judging.
Around 80 people entered this year's competition with a particularly strong entry in the Allotment category. The preliminary judging shows there is great enthusiasm and interest from both newcomers and regular supporters of the competition. Everyone has made a great effort and shown a love of gardening and flare for trying new things. With the standard so high, the final judges will have their work cut out to select the best gardens.
The competition recognises achievement in the areas of Biodiversity, Best Council Tenant, Commercial Premises, Floral, Vegetable, Allotment, Floral Containers and Best Newcomer.
The lucky winners will receive a range of vouchers to spend in garden centres.
All categories are judged on:
- the general appearance and layout of the garden
- the utilisation of the plant material within the garden
- the standard of cultivation and maintenance of the garden
This year's judges include Martin Jeffcot from Fife Council. He will be looking for eye catching gardens which are well planned and generally tidy.
He will be joined by Provost Derek Stewart, Allan Gall and Kathy Knox from Clackmannanshire Council. They will be looking for bright, colourful displays using original ideas and design.
You are invited to send a photographer to Kilncraigs at 9am on Thursday 29th July where the judging party will gather before heading off to view the gardens.
The presentation of prizes will take place at Kilncraigs on the evening of Friday 3rd September.
