Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils are working together across Education Services and Social Services.
It's all about better services for local people. The changes aim to provide better, more efficient services, model best practice and make the most of the skills, expertise and experience across both Councils.
The original Learning to Succeed in Clackmannanshire was written in April 2000 yet, despite the large number of educational initiatives which have been introduced in the last ten years and the rapidly changing global economy, its fundamental principles still hold true today. Learning to Succeed in Clackmannanshire in the 21st century, therefore, seeks to uphold those original principles, whilst at the same time recognizing and taking account of those changes that have taken place in the world of educaiton over the last ten years.
In an age of rapid and constant technological change, the role of education is to ensure that individuals are equipped with the necessary life and work skills to adapt and thrive, whilst at the same time demonstrating a readiness to play their part as responsible citizens.
Schools
We maintain nineteen primary schools (seventeen non-denominational and two Roman Catholic) and three secondary schools. All these schools are organised on a non-selective comprehensive basis.
Our schools are firmly committed to the principles laid out in "Learning to Succeed in Clackmannanshire in the 21st century" and to raising standards of attainment for all children, with good results.
Attainment
Levels of attainment in Clackmannanshire primary schools have been rising steadily over the past five years. We are now helping pupils attain at levels which at least match those in peer schools.
An analysis of the levels of attainment of pupils in 2010 shows that the percentage of pupils achieving
- Standard Grade English and Mathematics by the end of S4 was 94%,
- 5 or more awards at level 3 or better by the end of S4 was 94%,
- 5 or more awards at level 4 or better was 74%,
- 5 or more awards at level 5 or better has been maintained at 28% for 5 years,
- 5 or more awards at level 6 by the end of S5 was maintained at 7%,
- 1 or more awards at level 7 by the end of S6 was the highest over the last 8 years.
Educational Development Service
This Service plays a key quality improvement and development role in the authority and provides support and challenge to schools in their self-evaluation procedures, in order to ensure a high quality of educational provision across the authority. Quality Improvement Officers also provide pastoral support to schools. There is a Quality Improvement Manager and 2.6 Quality Improvement Officers, who provide a range of services to primary and secondary schools, 4 Education Support Officers, and a number of seconded development officers.
Additional Support Needs
Provision is made, so far as possible, in mainstream schools for children with additional support needs. In addition we maintain one special school for children of primary school age and two support services for pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs. We have specialist provision for children with complex learning needs located within Alloa Academy.
The Psychological Service
The central goals of the service are to enable individuals to achieve their full potential and maximum independence, meet the needs of parents and carers in respect of psychological needs of children and give support to schools and other agencies involved in providing services to children and young people.
