Introduction to Community Councils

The public consultation is now complete. You can read more about the feedback and the Council's report on the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils page.

There are currently * 8 community councils covering most of the towns and villages in Clackmannanshire.

Community councils are local voluntary organisations with a difference - they have a right to exist under the law and a right to be consulted on planning issues.

All Councils have to agree a Scheme of Establishment for Community Councils which sets out the areas they cover, election procedures and their powers.

Elections are now in progress for Community Council members for the areas of Alloa; Sauchie & Fishcross and Tillcoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside. Follow the link to our Elections page for more details and a nomination pack.

Standing for election is a simple process. To be eligible you must be over 16 and your name must appear on the electoral roll for the area. If you wish to be added to the roll, write to Administration and Legal Services, Greenfield, Alloa, FK10 2AD with your name and address, along with your date of birth.

Community councils are made up of between 10 and 16 local people who are interested in their community. Most community councils meet monthly. They are there to represent the views of the local community to the local authority and other agencies and support community activity.

Here are a range of things they do:

All community council meetings are open to the public, and their minutes and agendas should be available.

Petitions to establish Community Councils in Alloa; Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton & Devonside and Sauchie & Fishcross have been accepted by the Chief Executive of Clackmannanshire Council. We are now moving to the nomination stage, of the election process, and would like to invite residents of these areas to consider becoming a Community Councillor.
The nomination process is simple - just fill out one of our nomination forms and get two people to support you. Anyone who is over the age of 16 and who appears on our electoral roll can stand.
