Bucky Busters logo

This group is made up of young people from Alloa who are raising awareness about the dangers of alcohol and safety as well as distributing information to their peer group.

The group had been meeting with the detached youth workers at various locations in Alloa on a Friday night. The topic of alcohol and health were often discussed with the group, however, they felt that much of the youth information was not relevant to their experiences.

The detached workers therefore agreed to support this core group to develop this peer education project.

Information leaflet

As part of the project, group members worked with our detached youth workers in putting together an information leaflet geared towards young people. You can view or download the Bucky Busters leaflet from this page.

Group meetings

The group meets every Thursday from 6.00 - 9.00 pm at the Hawkhill Centre.

Recognition

This project will be used by the group as a submission for their silver Youth Achievement Award and their volunteering has been acknowledged through their membership of the local Clacks Youth Timebank Project.

Events

Summer roadshow

Summer roadshows are planned every Friday for six weeks at different venues throughout Clackmannanshire. This will provide young people with the opportunity to take part in interactive alcohol workshops led by group members, learn about health and community safety issues associated with young people and alcohol as well as take part in healthy taster alternative activities and participate in a prize quiz.

Launch

The project was was launched on Saturday, 20th March 2010 by Keith Brown MSP at the Bowmar Centre to raise awareness, distribute the information leaflet as well as giving young people attending the opportunity to try out different activities.
