Private Fostering

When parents make arrangements with people who are not close relatives or officially approved foster carers to care for their children for 28 days or longer it is known as 'private fostering'.

The parents and the carer should tell the local authority about the arrangements so that we can check that the arrangements are suitable for the child. By informing the council, it means that vulnerable children benefit on having proper checks made on their care and accommodation, as well as giving carers support and advice.
