Hillfoots Family Centre is a purpose-built centre providing a range of services for children and families in the Hillfoots area. We cover all the Hillfoots towns plus Coalsnaughton, Fishcross and Sauchie. Our mini-bus covers all these areas, providing transport to and from the centre where possible. The centre provides support for parents through group work, individual work, and outreach work within the family home.

We are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. All our care workers are qualified nursery nurses. We also have a full-time cook who prepares nutritious meals and snacks for the children in the centre.

Staff use the Birth to Three and 3-5 curriculum guidelines in line with local and national guidance. There is also a range of groups for parents to take part in, providing support for one another. These groups are run by the staff with a creche available. There is also a Parent & Toddler Group, which you can just come along to. We run a pre-pre-school group called the Rising 4s.

Our unit caters for children 1-4 years and we have a baby room providing respite care for the under-1s.

Unit places

Unit places are provided for families who need extra support. These places are allocated following our monthly Admissions Group which includes input from Health Visitors as well as Family Centre Management. We receive referrals from Health Visitors, Social Workers, and parents themselves. We review these placements on a regular basis to ensure the service we are providing is appropriate to the needs of the particular family.

Parents play an important part in the review process as it provides them with an opportunity to discuss any aspect of their child's behaviour and enables the care worker to relate the child's progress within the unit. Parents can, of course, discuss their child with the care worker at any time.

Groups

We currently run the following groups within the centre:

• Baby Massage - Mondays 1:30pm - 2pm
• Under 1s Group - Mondays 2pm - 3:30pm
• Play Sessions - Wednesdays 10:30am - 12pm
• Fun & Relaxation - Wednesdays 1:30pm - 3pm
• Parent & Toddlers - Thursdays 1:30pm - 3pm
• S.O.S. Group - Thursdays 1:30pm - 3pm

We have acquired an allotment within walking distance from the centre. We are in the process of developing this and welcome any input from parents. The Allotment Group meets on a Wednesday morning at 10:30am.

Our cook also runs cookery session throughout the year both on an individual and group basis.
