Could you Foster?
Clackmannanshire urgently needs foster carers. By applying to foster through Clackmannanshire Council, you will be helping to keep vulnerable children close to their families, schools and friends.

If so, fostering may be the rewarding experience you have been looking for.
Criteria
You must be able to demonstrate that you are
- committed to caring for children
- over 21 years of age
- living in a stable home environment
- sufficiently healthy to cope with the demands of fostering
All applicants also undergo a Scottish Criminal Records Office check for previous convictions.
Qualities
Main qualities necessary for all prospective foster carers include
- caring nature
- lots of energy
- understanding
- patience
- sense of humour
- interest in supporting a child's education
Family background
We are looking for foster carers from all walks of life and ethnicity who are
- married
- divorced
- single
- living with a partner
- working or not working
Support
As well as having your own Supervising Social Worker who is there to help you with anything concerned with fostering, support is also offered out of hours, so carers are supported 24/7.
Training
An introductory course is provided to give you the basic tools and knowledge for fostering. From there opportunities are provided to enable you to build up your expertise in particular areas.
Assessment
The assessment is very detailed and can take up to six months from signing the application form to being presented at the Fostering Panel.
Allowances
An allowance is paid for each child being fostered. A 'skills based approach' to the payment of allowances and fees has also been developed.
